The Ice Cream Series

April 30, 2008 · Leave a Comment

A little while back, I had the absolute pleasure of meeting a girl named Sophia. There are three things you should know about her.

1. She is really shy when you first meet her.

2. All shyness is out the window the minute you introduce ice cream.

3. She happens to be a very talented (and serious) ice cream scooper.

Who knew. The window to a soul is a perfect bowl of ice cream. Maybe this is a universal tactic for those under 5, but I happen to think she’s very special.

You can eat ice cream with me anytime, cutie. I’ll bring the spoons. You do the scoopin’.

You know you’re a photographer when you go to do your laundry and instead of finding loose change, bills or matches in your pockets, you find a lens cap.

Date with a squirrel

April 10, 2008 · Leave a Comment

What began as a sunny stroll through the park on a shoot for some commissioned work, turned out to be a wildly entertaining and slightly embarrassing adventure I must tell you about.

I was walking along, minding my own business, when suddenly a shuffling in the brush caught my attention. I stopped to check it out and what did I find, but a frisky little squirrel peering up at me, with what I swear was a half smirk. I snapped a couple of pictures of him and to my surprise he came even closer! With each click of the shutter he twitched, spun and pounced around in a bed of pansies, while throwing little glances my way. He may have even winked. It was dazzling. He was so ridiculously cute and flirtatious I actually laughed out loud. In the park. By myself. Camera around my neck, in the bushes, chasing squirrels. Like a crazy lady. I guess there are worse ways to spend an afternoon. Enjoy the little fella. I’ll call him Wendell. Wendell the flirt.

Sweet Wendell. The quirky little squirrel who stole my heart and scurried up a tree with it.
